The group includes unaccompanied minors awaiting reunification with their families in the U.S. as well as Afghans at risk of Taliban retribution because they fought for the former U.S.-backed Afghan government, said Shawn VanDiver, head of the #AfghanEvac coalition of U.S. veterans and advocacy groups and the U.S. official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
There is no bottom to this depravity. And Republicans will do nothing.
He is doing it right now
7:54 PM, Monday, Jan 20: MSNBC reporting that Trump is now signing/has signed pardons for 1,500 Jan 6 criminals.
At age 80, my entire criminal record is a speeding ticket when I was a college student in Alabama, 1965.
Why did I even bother to obey any laws at all???
It's started
Today I received fund raising emails from:
Hakkim Jeffries
Kamala Harris
Some place with a name like We Fight Back - I deleted it before I caught the full name
A Democratic candidate for DNC chair
Nancy Pelosi. Excuse me but after what she did to AOC Ill kiss her ass in Macys window before I give a penny to anything with her name on it.
Not giving a penny to anyone anytime soon. I want to see some fight. And I dont mean an occasional op-ed Ill empty my wallet to the first Democrat who is willing to take a gun to a knife fight.
I may be a little early with this -- but -- one good thing about T#### being inaugurated in the Rotunda:
At least no one rubbed shit on the walls this time.
Here's a bit of good news, maybe an omen
My daughter has lived on Capitol Hill since 2006, in the shadow of the Capitol and Supreme Court.
She's a 2.5 hour drive from our place in rural Virginia and when she returns home, she always must search for a parking space on her street and surrounding streets.
Since 2006 she has seen the inaugurations of Obama ('09, '13), T#### ('17), Biden ('21), and now T#### ('25). On Inauguration Day, there are people EVERYWHERE -- around Capitol, on the Mall, in restaurants and bars -- CROWDS EVERYWHERE.
She noticed as she entered the district from the SE coming in from Maryland, crossing the Anacostia, there was very little traffic, almost no one on any of the streets. She just called us -- several on-street parking spaces open in front of her townhouse; streets were all but empty, the only presence except for occasional civilians was uniformed military (DC National Guard) along with DC and Capitol Police.
The cold temp and wind chill may have something to do with it but she knew NO ONE -- friends, people from her law firm, neighbors, family, NO ONE who was attending, watching, or paying any attention to the sparsely-attended ceremony at the Rotunda.
The new rules
Effective January 20, 2025:
If I win I take all the money in the pot.
If you win, I pull a gun, my friends pull guns, and we not only all the money in the pot but also everything in your purses and wallets as well as your watches, jewelry, and cell phones.
Our plans for Jan 20:
Daughter lives in DC on Capitol Hill. We are 2.5 hours away in rural Virginia. She came down Friday, going home Tuesday, refuses to be in DC on Inauguration Day. Turns out, a LOT of her friends and neighbors have left town for few days for same reason.
So -- wife and daughter plan to spend ALL DAY JAN 20, 2025, beginning at 6:00 AM: WATCHING CHICK FLICKS!!!
-- Pride and Prejudice
-- Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café
-- Love Actually
-- Five Weddings and a Funeral
-- Sweet Home Alabama
-- you get the picture
I plan to drink a lot.
Let's check the weather for inauguration day . . .
. . . in Greenland.
Trump makes a big deal about incorporating Greenland into the US. Weather forecast for NE Greenland -- and pretty much the whole island -- for Jan 20 is high temp of 36 deg, winds at 45 MPH (!!!!) which is a wind chill in the teens.
If he can't handle the cold in DC, how is he going to survive in Greenland?
He's nuts. But you knew that.
President Biden's interview with Lawrence
Very, very moving .
While theres a LOT to unpack about the interview, the critical takeaway is that Biden is a decent man who admits that he stumbles but ALWAYS has at heart the best interests of people who work for a living.
The interview starkly reminds us that we are plunging forward into a very, very dark place.
