Jrose's JournalLong overdue proposal... End Electoral College!
Three progressive Democratic senators have unveiled a constitutional amendment that aims to abolish the Electoral College, five weeks after Donald Trump stormed to victory in the presidential election by sweeping the battleground states.
Brian Schatz of Hawaii, Dick Durbin of Illinois and Peter Welch of Vermont presented their bill on Monday, saying it was time to restore democracy by doing away with the college system altogether and giving primacy to the popular vote, the total number of ballots cast by the American electorate.
In an election, the person who gets the most votes should win. Its that simple, said Schatz.

Senators propose abolition of flawed and outdated system that disenfranchises millions of Americans

This bill has been introduced in Missouri. It's not from 'The Onion' or satire!
'Missouri introduces Donald Trump bill that lets people with felonies run for office.
A Republican state representative in Missouri has proposed legislation that would allow a person who has pleaded guilty to, or been convicted of, a felony to serve in public office and has named it, pointedly, after the president-elect.
The Donald J Trump Election Qualification Act, introduced by state representative Michael Davis, would repeal a 2015 local law that prevents a person with a felony from becoming a candidate in a local or state-wide election.
If passed, it would allow a person with a criminal record to run for office if otherwise qualified."

Re: Presidential Ethics Pledges... Not 'The Onion' - seriously!
'Trump signed the law to require presidential ethics pledges. Now he is exempting himself from it
A bipartisan bill to boost transparency and make sure incoming presidents stick to an ethics plan was so uncontroversial that it passed the Senate by a voice vote in 2020. Donald Trump then signed it into law.
But now, after blowing past deadlines to adhere to the law after winning the White House a second time, Trump appears to have excluded himself from those same ethical guidelines.'

The Speech JFK never had the opportunity to give on 11/22/63
'A lesson from 1963:
JFKs warning on political power has never been more relevant

President John F. Kennedy was killed before he could deliver a speech in 1963, saying the nation does not need fanatics or the faint-hearted.
The greatest words never uttered by an American president may have come from John F. Kennedy, who was assassinated just hours before he was scheduled to deliver a speech in Austin, Texas.
Kennedy never made it out of Dallas.
Missing from most memorials is the speech Kennedy, 46, would have given that day had he not been cut down in the prime of his life and presidency.
Like many of Kennedys speeches his Ask not inaugural address, the Cuban Missile Crisis speech, his address on civil rights this one stands the test of time, and is as relevant today as it was on the day he didnt deliver it. Kennedy in 1963 was already gearing up for reelection. He was aware that a feud among party leaders in Texas could hurt his chances of carrying the state in 1964, and one of his goals in traveling to the Lone Star State that week was to bring Democrats together. Kennedy had made the rounds in San Antonio, Houston, Fort Worth and Dallas. Next on his schedule was a stop in Austin, the state capital, for a speech to the Texas Democratic State Committee.
For this country is moving and it must not stop, Kennedy was planning to say, according to a transcript of the speech. It cannot stop. For this is a time for courage and a time for challenge. Neither conformity nor complacency will do. Neither the fanatics nor the faint hearted are needed. And our duty as a party is not to our party alone, but to the nation, and, indeed, to all mankind. Our duty is not merely the preservation of political power but the preservation of peace and freedom.
Kennedys words were a prescient and sobering message, especially in the weeks since the election this month when weve seen nothing but political power on display.
Instead of being grateful for the promise of a peaceful transition he never allowed to happen, President-elect Donald Trump is testing the limits of his reacquired power and Republican compliance with a list of bizarre cabinet appointments. A Republican majority in the new Senate will make confirmations easier for Trumps picks. But the incoming administration, according to a report, has already warned GOP senators that those who dont fall in line behind his nominees will face primary challenges funded by his new best friend, worlds richest man Elon Musk. Trump has even advocated for bypassing the traditional Senate confirmation process, relying instead on recess appointments, which would allow his nominees to be seated without confirmation when the Senate is in recess.
This is what Kennedy would have warned against had he lived just a few more hours, the fanatics like Trump and the faint hearted conservatives who do his destructive bidding.

A letter posted in The NY Daily News against Djt's promised 'mass deportation'
(I have not posted the name of the writer to protect the person's privacy). This expresses very well how dire, inhumane and anti-democratic Djt's threat against immigrants is:
Stand against a roundup
(Roosevelt, L.I.)
"Let us protest President-elect Trumps mass deportation plan. It is senseless family separation on steroids. It must not be tolerated no matter how popular Trump is. The mass deportation of 11 million immigrants is extremely harmful. All immigrants are not criminals and must not be discriminated against with Trump back in the White House. Hard-working immigrants must be celebrated and appreciated, not eliminated to keep Trumps campaign promise, built on lies. Yes, those who have committed crimes must pay the time. That includes Trump. You reap what you sow, and what happens in the darkness will come to light. Dangerous double standards of mass deportation could backfire on America. It creates devastating costs to American citizens in terms of our economy, national debt and budget."
Tammy Duckworth: Hegseth not qualified to be defense secretary
'Illinois senator and Army veteran Tammy Duckworth: Hegseth 'not qualified' to be defense secretary'
'Speaking to ABC, Illinois Democratic senator and retired Army National Guard lieutenant colonel Tammy Duckworth criticized Pete Hegseths belief that women should not play in a combat role.
Duckworth, who is a combat veteran of the Iraq war where she served as a Army helicopter pilot before losing both legs during an attack in 2004, said:
Obviously I have my personal opinions but as a US senator, my job will be to determine whether or not he is qualified to be secretary of defense, and frankly, it shows me that hes not because he doesnt understand the realities of modern warfare.
Were not talking about the Revolutionary War, where theres a line behind which
this is combat and thats not combat. If you were in the green zone
Baghdad, you were in a combat zone, whether you were a helicopter pilot like myself or a truck driver, which, by the way, is a job that women have been doing since World War One. So it just showed me that he really doesnt understand modern warfare and is therefore not qualified to be secretary of defense.

Tammy Duckworth is one of this country's most courageous, patriotic and outspoken American women. She fights along with those of us who defend democracy against Djt's rising autocracy of fascistic and misogynistic white men.
I call them 'The Underminers'
Djt's cabinet picks...
The Underminers of:
-Democracy
-Scientifically based health policies and research
-Women's rights to choose, to be legally
protected from abuse and to have equal
opportunities with men.
-Immigrants rights to legally attain citizenship
-Thorough education of history, science and
various cultures
-Freedom of religion and from religion
We must try in every legal way to undermine the Underminers!
Henry Winkler's response re Djt's cabinet picks is a gem!

Donald Trump, DJT Jr, Elon Musk and RFK pose with McDonalds fast food.
'President-elect Donald Trump, his son Don Jr, Tesla/X CEO Elon Musk and Robert F Kennedy Jr posed for a photo together on what appears to be a private plane. In front of them are trays of McDonalds food. RFK Jr, who Trump wants to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, appears less than enthused to be associated with the fast food, though he may have just been caught off guard by the camera.'
A caption on a picture posted by Djt and Dtjr. reads Make America Healthy Again starts TOMORROW.
