Gonzaga hires professor fired after viral U. of Missouri video

http://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/education/gonzaga-hires-professor-fired-for-trying-to-block-journalist-at-university-of-missouri-protest/

Last fall, a University of Missouri faculty member was captured on video asking for “some muscle” to chase a photojournalist away from a tense campus protest about racial conflicts. She was put on suspension and fired the following February.

This summer, Gonzaga University hired that professor, Melissa Click, for a one-year, non-tenure-track position in its Communications Studies Department.

A video that went viral on YouTube shows photojournalist Tim Tai, on a freelance assignment for ESPN, trying to take photos and being confronted by demonstrators who tell him to go away. (Prominent college athletes were involved in the protest.) “The First Amendment protects your right to be here and mine,” Tai said. The protesters shouted back: “Hey-hey, ho-ho, reporters have got to go!” Another told Tai: “You got to go, bro.”

Shortly afterward, Click appeared to push another reporter, Mark Schierbecker (he told The New York Times that she grabbed at his camera), and asked for help to eject him from the campus protest — which was on public property.

Didn't expect her to have a job in academia again, much less only a year from her last one.

University of Nebraska Lincoln introduces new 'non-negotiable respect' policy

University of Nebraska Lincoln introduces new 'non-negotiable respect' policy which bans insulting groups, individuals or ideologies

During a speech given at the new student convocation last month, Green made it clear that 'actions of hate and disrespect' would not be tolerated.

However, the policy on what constitutes 'hate' and 'disrespect' has not been made clear.

...

'Feel free to politely criticize the ideas of ISIS or the Ku Klux Klan, for example, but make sure not to show any disrespect, much less hatred, for any group, individual, or ideology.

'If you can’t express yourself respectfully, shut up.,' intellectual freedom activist David Moshman wrote on the Huffington Post.

Because this worked out so well for Mizzou.

So, how'd that work out for you, Mizzou?

http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/education/enrollment-is-in-fact-down-at-mizzou/article_e7e46947-b8f1-5d78-a166-39ca0446ccea.html

Undergraduate enrollment is down more than 2,100 students, or almost 8 percent, this semester compared to fall 2015, and almost three-quarters of that loss comes from the freshman class.

As of the first day of classes, Mizzou enrolled 4,799 freshmen — the smallest class in almost a decade. That number is down more than 1,600 incoming freshmen from fall 2015.

University officials braced for a smaller freshman class for months following a string of events last fall that brought the campus under national scrutiny. Protests centered largely around matters of race led to deep divisions among the campus and community and to the resignation of the school’s top two leaders.

Preliminary data show a 12 percent decline in out-of-state undergraduate students, and a 6 percent decline of in-state undergraduate students compared to fall 2015.

This is what happens when you cave to a bunch of rich, spoiled, lying brats bent on turning the campus into a regressive utopia.

At least the University of Chicago had the good sense to tell those types to knock it off before they even started there.

Hoosier DUers, tornado warning in effect right now.

Indianapolis, Marion County, Southeastern Hamilton County, and Hancock County. Heading East towards Greenfield.

As a Hoosier, let me just say - FUCK MIKE PENCE

Good riddance. He's now ineligible for run for reelection as governor--which means Democrats have a real chance to absolutely dominate Indiana this year.

John Gregg for Governor
