Rep. John Katko-R: US Capitol attack was 'much worse than people realized'

https://www.syracuse.com/politics/2021/01/rep-john-katko-us-capitol-attack-was-much-worse-than-people-realized.html

Washington – Rep. John Katko says he has received intelligence briefings that suggest the Jan. 6 storming of the U.S. Capitol was more than a spontaneous attack by an angry mob.

Katko, the top Republican on the House Homeland Security Committee, said the briefings raised serious questions about how much planning went into the attack and the security lapses that allowed rioters to reach the House and Senate chambers.

“There are a lot of unanswered questions here, from possible security lapses to who was involved and when they were involved,” Katko said. “We need to have a full stem to stern look back on this to see what happened, how it happened, the sequence of events, who contributed to it, and how we make sure it never happens again."

The man, identified as Brendan Hunt, was arrested in Queens following a raid by the FBI -- but he wasn't at the siege in the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, officials said Tuesday. The alleged threats were made in a series of posts on various social media websites under the alias "X-Ray Ultra" between Dec. 6 and Jan. 12.

Various posts indicated Hunt, a full-time employee of the New York State Office of Court Administration who dabbles part-time in acting in filmmaking, believed President Donald Trump's widely disputed claims of a "rigged election" and wanted to exact revenge on Democrats involved in the process. He listed several by name in at least one Facebook post, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

"Start up the firing squads, mow down these commies, and lets take america back," that December post read. It also called for "public execution" of those officials. Another early December post ranted about the coronavirus "lockdown" and encouraged people who felt similarly to "go after a high value target." Again, he listed the names Pelosi, Schumer and Ocasio-Cortez, documents show.

Feds Bust Conspiracy-Addled Pickup Artist Who Allegedly Brought Guns to D.C. Riot

https://www.thedailybeast.com/samuel-fisher-conspiracy-addled-nyc-pickup-artist-arrested-in-capitol-riots

New York City pickup artist accused of bringing firearms to Washington, D.C., and participating in the “violent” Capitol insurrection—then later bragging about it on social media—has been arrested.

Samuel Fisher, a 35-year-old who also goes by the name “Brad Holiday,” was arrested Wednesday on several charges, including disorderly conduct on restricted grounds and unlawful entry. According to the New York Daily News, Fisher was taken into custody on the Upper East Side and had with him an arsenal of ammunition, tactical gear, two machetes, an American flag, and at least one shotgun.

Prosecutors allege Fisher traveled to D.C with “multiple firearms and a bulletproof vest,” though it is not immediately clear if he carried them inside the Capitol. Fisher also posted several photos and social media messages while at the riots. During a Wednesday court hearing, Magistrate Judge Stewart D. Aaron denied Fisher’s request for bail, stating that he presents a clear danger to the community.

TIM EVANS | INDIANAPOLIS STAR | 18 hours ago

In the wake of the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, Kroger has removed the Indiana Oath Keepers from a program that allows customers to direct donations to nonprofit organizations.

We were dismayed to learn today this group is part of the Community Rewards program,” Eric Halverson, Kroger’s manager of corporate affairs, said Tuesday in an email response to a question from IndyStar. “Given the concerning nature of the allegations against this organization, we have immediately removed the group from receiving customer-directed funds.”

Several people affiliated with the national Oath Keepers movement were among those who allegedly entered the Capitol building. They include Hoosier Jon Schaffer, a heavy metal guitarist who was photographed in an Oath Keepers ballcap inside the Capitol. He is facing six federal criminal charges after he was accused of spraying a police officer with a pepper-based bear repellant.
