NATO assuming full command of the air defenses in Poland, a country neighboring war-torn Ukraine, is aimed at enhancing protection of logistical networks for the western security alliance.
NATO spokesperson Martin O’Donnell confirmed to The Hill that the alliance formally assumed command on Friday.
O’Donnell said the shift would enforce protection of logistical nodes for the NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine (NSATU), a new command unit announced by the alliance in July to support Kyiv in the war against Russia.
NSATU, which has 700 personnel and is headquartered in Germany, began last month assuming responsibilities from the U.S. and international organizations to support Ukraine.

Google and Microsoft donate $1m each to Trump's inaugural fund

Google and Microsoft have donated $1m each to Donald Trump’s inauguration fund, following in the footsteps of other major companies including Amazon, Meta, OpenAI and Uber.
“Google is pleased to support the 2025 inauguration, with a livestream on YouTube and a direct link on our homepage. We’re also donating to the inaugural committee,” Karan Bhatia, Google’s global head of government affairs and public policy, confirmed in a statement to the Guardian on Thursday.
The tech giant made the donation on Monday, CNBC reported. José Castaneda, a Google spokesperson, told the outlet that the company has donated to previous inauguration funds and previously hosted livestreams of inauguration ceremonies.
A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed the company’s donation to Trump’s inaugural fund in a statement to Bloomberg on Thursday. The company donated $500,000 each to Trump’s inauguration in 2017 and Joe Biden’s inauguration in 2021, Bloomberg reports.

President-elect Donald Trump's team is instructing all his nominees to stop posting on social media before confirmation, reported the New York Post on Monday.
“While this instruction has been delivered previously, I am reiterating that no member of the incoming administration or Transition speaks for the United States or the President-elect himself,” stated Susie Wiles, the GOP strategist and former Trump campaign head now selected for White House Chief of Staff. “Accordingly, all intended nominees should refrain from any public social media posts without prior approval of the incoming White House counsel.”
While many of Trump's nominees have been under the radar and ordinary picks, he has also announced a slate of controversial nominees that have dominated the news cycle, including vaccine conspiracy theorist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for secretary of Health and Human Services, former Hawaii congresswoman and accused Putin sympathizer Tulsi Gabbard for director of national intelligence, far-right enemies-list touting Kash Patel for director of the FBI, and Fox News personality Pete Hegseth, who has been accused of sexual assault.
Another controversial nominee, former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), withdrew from consideration for attorney general ahead of a devastating House Ethics Committee report detailing evidence he engaged in underage sex trafficking, illicit drug use, obstruction of Congress, and other offenses.

Georgian prime minister suspends EU membership talks until end of 2028

The prime minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, has announced he is suspending his country's EU membership application process until the end of 2028.
His announcement came after the European Parliament condemned Georgia's 26 October parliamentary elections, stating they were neither free nor fair.

Biden Grants Rivian $6.6B Loan to Revive Stalled Georgia EV Factory

On Tuesday, the Biden administration announced a $6.6 billion loan to Rivian Automotive from the U.S. Department of Energy, aimed at resuming construction of the company's paused factory in Georgia.
The loan is a critical step for the electric vehicle (EV) maker, which had halted work on the plant after struggling to become profitable. The project's future now depends on the loan's completion before the upcoming presidential transition.
Rivian, which gained attention after producing large electric SUVs, pickup trucks, and delivery vans, had planned to build a $5 billion factory near Social Circle, Georgia, to produce smaller, more affordable R2 vehicles.
The first phase of the factory was set to produce 200,000 vehicles annually, with a second phase planned to double that number.
