In the past few years, it has simply become much more obvious what they really stand for, all the "kinder, gentler, compassionate conservatism" horse shit worn away like last week's lipstick. Even these experts at re-branding and reparative cosmetics cannot cover it up forever. Lying is a fundamental campaign tactic with these guys.
Proving a negative?
Isn't proving a negative a logical impossibility? (Which would make Bill M clever enough to make a lot of hay out of this and Donald T a grousing buffoon... again.)

truth-telling about Republican ideals
Yes, the Republican party "has problems". Namely that they don't recognize, in even the grainiest of detail, that they are loathed by a majority of voting humans. The reason for this is also clear: that majority recognizes that the loathing is mutual. Second, they have gained a reputation for telling Great Lies, and that even cosmetics experts and sleight-of-hand artists like Rove will be hard-pressed to overcome the rich #$%$ history of "kinder and gentler", "compassionate conservative" and "trickle down".
