ecstatic's JournalKamala sent me a christmas card
Some of you may have received it too. The return address says "The Vice President's Residence" Washington DC. I expected to maybe see a request for donations to various groups, but no, it was just a happy holiday / season's greeting card with the seal of the Vice President. After everything that has happened, I think it was a very thoughtful gesture. I almost teared up thinking about what could have been...
Adam Schiff Doesn't Want Preemptive Biden Pardon
Schiff, as well as former Representative Liz Cheney and former Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Anthony Fauci, are among the names considered for possible pardons, according to the report.
Schiff, a California Democrat who won the state's Senate race last month, told Politico he is not supportive of the idea.
"I would urge the president not to do that. I think it would seem defensive and unnecessary," Schiff said.

First of all, who is leaking this stuff to the media? And why???!
Second, just issue a blanket POCKET pardon and be done with it. It's not rocket science. Schiff will thank him later because he WILL be targeted. Guaranteed.
I think y'all are all overthinking it. The only thing unique about that attack was that the killer limited
the carnage to the person he was targeting (unlike other terrorists who kill everyone in the vicinity).
I don't think he personally knows anyone killed by UHC. He's just a homegrown domestic terrorist / serial killer, for lack of a better word, and his target appears to be heartless CEOs. He probably did not expect to still be alive right now, but now that he's escaped, he might move on to the next person on his list.
There are a lot of other wild theories I can think of, but I think the simplest explanation is usually the right one.
Should Biden "blanket pardon" everyone who trump is threatening to lock up?
What can be done to protect everyone who trump is threatening to lock up (Jack Smith, Alvin Bragg, Liz Cheney, etc)?
are we just going to let msnbc die?
I have trump anxiety and I haven't been able to watch any of my favorite msnbc shows for longer than 10 minutes a pop, but I'm worried that our favorite shows will end up canceled... or worse... and then what will we have at that point?
Is it time for those of us who can stomach the news to resume watching so we can at least have a presence in the political talk show space?
Or is the plan to rely on youtube influencers going forward?
so what will happen with all of trump's pre-emptive election lawsuits?
Anybody know?
Simple question: Are we in danger, come January 20, 2025?
Do you believe that we will be placed in harm's way when trump takes over next year?
My answer: Yes, I think we are in danger. I don't have to rehash all the reasons why. The fact is, the danger that he poses has been evident for years, but it was made crystal clear on January 6, 2021. Yet the speed at which the FBI/DOJ moved was not in sync with the danger that we were in. It wasn't taken seriously.
Would any other terrorist leader be allowed to roam around freely for 3+ years and then run for office and win? No. Of course not.
Our nation's agencies are supposed to protect us. Why didn't that happen?
This is not justice at all. We were let down, big time. Millions of people don't see it yet, but they will, assuming they don't die first.
Clarification: By "we," I'm not referring to DU, I'm referring to the American people. All of us who live in this country.
Madam President: The most memorable fictional female US Presidents in film & TV
The US elections are less than a week away, and we don't know about you, but we're trying to preserve our sanity and keep our stress levels low by rewatching Veep - the fantastic HBO political comedy created by Scottish satirist Armando Iannucci.
The show, based on fictional vice-president Selina Meyer who ends up becoming POTUS, earned Louis-Dreyfus six Emmy Awards in the titular role. It ended in 2019 but viewership of the comedy has gone through the roof since Harriss run was announced.

I think jd should have had to explain his cat lady comments
Especially considering the stupid China questions. Jd and huckabee have really hurt millions of people with their comments.
Interesting new threat issued to Medicaid healthcare providers in Georgia (re: abortion)
This notice is from the Georgia Department of Public Health/ Department of Community Health. Most providers will never see this message, by the way, unless they are doing their own administrative work and have to log in to the platform for some reason.
September 25, 2024
This important notice is being issued to address misinformation concerning Georgias abortion laws. In the State of Georgia, abortion is permissible at any stage of pregnancy to save the life and health of the mother in the event of a medical emergency.
Under the Living Infants Fairness and Equality Act (LIFE Act)1, medical emergency means a condition in which, in reasonable medical judgment, an abortion is necessary in order to prevent the death of the pregnant woman or the substantial and irreversible physical impairment of a major bodily function of the pregnant woman. As such, physicians in Georgia are expected to follow standards of care in providing treatment for pregnant women in emergent situations. The law does not prohibit the removal of a dead unborn child caused by a spontaneous abortion or the removal of an ectopic pregnancy, nor does the law require that death of the mother be imminent for a doctor, in his or her reasonable medical judgment, to determine that a medical emergency exists. Also, exceptions are provided for reported cases of rape and incest.
Health care facilities and providers must be aware that a physician providing life-saving treatment for pregnant women does not violate Georgia law and that failure to provide such treatment may constitute malpractice. Additionally, a miscarriage is not an abortion. O.C.G.A. § 31-9A-2(1) defines abortion as the use of prescription of any instrument, medicine, drug, or any other substance or device with the intent to terminate the pregnancy of a female known to be pregnant (emphasis added).
Physicians are reminded that Georgia law requires life-saving medical care to a mother without delay when necessary, according to O.C.G.A. § 31-9A-5.
The failure to act timely in critical situations may result in regulatory sanctions from the Healthcare Facility Regulation Division of the Department of Community Health or other State boards and agencies. More information on Georgias abortion law is available on the Department of Public Health website: https://dph.georgia.gov/womens-right-know-wrtk
1 The LIFE Act is codified at O.C.G.A. §§ 1-2-1; 16-12-141; 19-6-15(4); 19-7-1(c)(1); 31-9A-3, 4; 31-9B-2, 3; and 48-7-26(a).

It sounds like DPH/DCH is super embarrassed by the tragic and completely avoidable deaths that have now gained worldwide attention and they're trying to carve out their own rules and sanctions that may potentially conflict with the law as it's actually written. I read the law and it says physicians can use "reasonable medical judgment," but then it also says that all health records should be made available to the District Attorney, and that a woman can sue the doctor for performing an abortion, I guess if she later thinks that his/her judgment was not reasonable? https://law.justia.com/codes/georgia/title-16/chapter-12/article-5/section-16-12-141/
The law also states that any doctor, pharmacist, or medical facility can refuse to perform abortions by declaring it ahead of time in writing. https://law.justia.com/codes/georgia/title-16/chapter-12/article-5/section-16-12-142/
So even though DPH/DCH has good intentions, is it possible that this notice will just make the situation even worse as doctors and hospitals decide to opt out of abortion care entirely, as the law allows?
